2009 RECONCILIATION MINISTRY SPECIAL OFFERING
The Reconciliation Offering will be received in most congregations on September 27th and October 4th, 2009. 100% of this offering is spent for the Reconciliation Ministry of the church. One half is returned to the Nebraska region and one half goes to the whole church Reconciliation Ministry. Earlier this year we had a Regional Event called "Overcoming Racism" that was facilitated by April Johnson, Minister of Reconciliation, and Martha Herrin who serves on the church-wide training team. Some of the persons who attended this event have agreed to serve on our Region’s Anti-Racism team. The objective of our efforts is to nurture the wholeness of the church by dismantling systemic racism and other oppressive structures toward becoming a church that demonstrates True Community, Deep Christian Spirituality, and a Passion for Justice. The money from this offering will be used to provide training opportunities for Nebraska Disciples for this important work.

IS YOUR CONGREGATION PREPARED FOR A FLU OUTBREAK?
As you may have read, there are now government assessments that as many as 30% - 50% of U.S. population could contract H1N1 virus, with as many as 90,000 deaths. Anyone born after 1957 has no immunity to this flu virus. The average age person who is contracting H1N1 is 19 years old. Thus far there have been three deaths in Nebraska. These deaths have been with persons who have had other serious ailments. Your congregation may wish to give serious consideration to implementing some of the recommendations :
- Consider changing communion practices - ( i.e. intinction rather than common plate and cups.) Prepare and serve elements wearing gloves and masks. Keep elements covered until used. Communicants can be brought forward by rows.
- During passing of the peace, simply smile, and say the words, without hugs or handshakes.
