First Christian Church (DOC) is a 126 year old congregation, located in Historic Ashland NE.

     Our congregation is a growing & vibrant congregation - we are one of over 3,000 congregations   worldwide - that make up our denomination known as the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) (DOC). We seek to be followers of Jesus Christ and share the "good news" of the gospel.

We believe this occurs through spirit filled worship, sound teaching & learning, strong programs

in outreach, mission, pastoral care, programming, & spiritual growth opportunities for all ages.

For all Disciples of Christ congregations, communion - The Lord's Supper - is central to our

worship and beliefs. Therefore, each time we gather for worship, we celebrate communion.

Through the regular observance of The Lord's Supper we are reminded of Jesus' life, death

and resurrection and God's relationship with us.

We invite all who believe in Jesus Christ to share in communion at the table.

DEAD churches don’t

LIVE churches have lots of “noisy youth”;

DEAD churches don’t

LIVE churches expenses always exceed their income;

                DEAD churches always take in more every year

       than they can ever dream of spending

LIVE churches are constantly improving and planning;

                DEAD churches worship their past

LIVE churches grow so fast you forget everybody’s name;

In DEAD churches everybody knows everybody’s name for years

LIVE churches support missions very heavily;

                DEAD churches keep it all at home

     LIVE churches focus on people;

                DEAD churches focus on programs

LIVE churches dream great dreams for God;

                DEAD churches relive nightmares

LIVE churches are fresh winds of love blowing;

DEAD churches are stale with bickering

LIVE churches don’t have “can’t” in their dictionary;

                DEAD churches have nothing else but

LIVE churches evangelize! DEAD churches fossilize!

BRIEF HISTORY of the Disciples of Christ (DOC)
The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) was founded in the early 1800's
in the United States. Seeking to move beyond denominational disagreements,
the founders envisioned a united church of Jesus Christ modeled on the New Testament.
Today our nearly 3,800 congregations worldwide still share those characterstics.

Key persons in the development of the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) (DOC):

Barton W. Stone         (1772 - 1844)
Thomas Campbell        (1763 - 1854)
Alexander Campbell    (1788 - 1866)
